As simple as the title:

Now that the game has been out for about a month, over all are you happy with your Minstrel/Bard/Skald character? Feel free to add some comments as to why or why not if you are so inclined.

I liked my minstrel and would start another if I decide to go back to DAoC.

I had high hopes for the game and know that it is better than EQ by leaps and bounds in terms of graphics, loot, trade skills and all that stuff. The only thing that they cannot change is people in general. I still run into folks who act like retards, moan about loot, refuse to group certain classes, and group for 1/2 hr then screw up the party by disbanding.

When it comes down to it I'd rather play a charectar that I have built up over a long time than start over and run into the same problems along the way. Maybe in the future I'll be back.

So Far I like the Minstrel. Not nearly as many spells as my Everquest bard, but its a different type of charsacter.

As far as EQ/VS DAoC as a whole, heres my 2 cents

DAoC Does these better
Death(dont lose level)
Quests(multi players can share the camp)
Magical Item drops(not just one guy droppin the good stuff)

EverQuest Does these better
General Loot drops(I lake farming from time to time)
Travel(gimme a gate and here you can have my horsey)
Armor and Weapons(newbies can use your Twinks)
Support(DAoC hasn't replied to any of my Email in a month so far, EQ always does)

Im keepin the Minstrel till he hits 50 DAoC is a cool game

From a usability standpoint I like my skald. He is useful in RvR, can solo (not his strongest point however) and is alright in groups (not as good as one would hope though).

Skalds have some minor issues grouping IMHO that could use some attention (more than 1 skald really is really no good).

My biggest beef is just from a flavor point of view. Skalds cast a spell of simple song of rest. Umm hows about singing? Our warcrys sound like lazers and the animation is not a whole lot better. The songs could really use some singing similar to how I hear music etc from the other bard types when I go do RvR. Perhaps some bard specific emotes to further enhance the roleplaying aspects of a bard (which I think should be one of the most fun types of characters to roleplay)

I like my bard. I have not had a chance to try out mez or AOE mez yet in RvR since I'm vacationing in sunny Florida for the holidays, and do not have access to a computer that can handle DAoC.

I believe that was the only issue that I had with my Bard going into vacation. I'm extremely useful in groups, I serve a purpose in PvP. The only problem I have is the apparent Game Dev's decisions to allow twisting into the game, since Bards benefit the least of all 3 song smiths. (starting a song is the same as leaving combat, you cannot cast for a certain period of time).

I don't dislike the Bard I created. I'm just disappointed that the game is forcing me into RvR/PvP, and this is one part of gaming that I am not interested in at all.

Account will probably be cancelled in a couple of weeks, and then let the vociferous 10% that want the RvR stuff take over. I don't really wish to play with them much.

I absolutely hated PvP in other games. It seemed that no matter how careful I was I would innocently wander into an area and get attacked. It took the enjoyment of the game away from me.

But in DAoC, you can't innocently wander into PvP areas. You have to purposely go to those areas, and I can see where it would be very easy to avoid those areas for 50 levels if you wanted to.

Also in DAoC there is no risk for PvP. If you are killed you lose nothing, no items, no money, no experience, and if you can't get a rez you can /release and find yourself back at your safe bind spot with all of your belongings intact......no running around naked in enemy territory trying to find your corpse.

Exploring the Frontier is exciting and fun. My RvR experience is limited, but it has been nothing but enjoyable. It's vastly more fun than killing the same old stupid mob over and over again. Suddenly the enemy has intelligence. It become the hunter being the hunted and back again. Stategy becomes important.

BTW, I am loving my skald

Mosh - you did know when you bought the game that after L50, the game was 100% RvR, right?

I mean, I can see a die-hard non-pvper not liking DAOC, but aside fom that, DAOC has the "kindest, gentlest" PvP available in an online game, I think. And the die-hard non-pvper should never have bought the game in the first place, I would think?

Not trying to be rude - DAOC is honestly not my cup of tea entirely either (I played Darktide-AC for a year and a half before making the move to full time DAOC beta), for the opposite reason - it's too light on RvR, too forgiving.

But, that's me; for most people out there, light RvR is perfect for them. They lose little/nothing, have much to gain, and have a blast doing it.

Are you sure you won't like RvR when you're L50? Maybe take it up there, try it out, see how it goes... I know there is a LOT - TONS - more stuff being added to the RvR aspect of the game for the high end. We've barely scratched the surface of the future plans for this game.

Yeah I'm curious about the vociferous 10% as well, cause only 10% or less don't wanna RVR.

Anyway, love the minstrel, didn't like the bard too much, still don't, but thats my opinion. Although I'd give up my left arm for endurance song, but whatever.
