You're missing the alternate class of player,
I'm an explorer, who likes to find new places to wander through, new creatures to study their habits, and new methods of pillaging and killing the two aforementioned categories. Explorers want to figure out the game mechanics. Figure out new strategies to accomplish either what has not been done, or new ways to accomplish what has been done, except better or just differently. Figure out what make DAoC "tick". What are the mob interactions, can you discover the "spawning" habits of an area, notice how mobs tend to drift through an area in this fashion. Wandering the world and picking up lore, if only to share it with your fellow player. To become a fount of knowledge for your fellow gamer. Basically to become a bard. By your narrowly defined poll, I'm a power gamer. Taken from Bartle's Original Paper, Explorers say things like: "Hmm..." "You mean you *don't know* the shortest route from <obscure room 1> to <obscure room 2>?" "I haven't tried that one, what's it do?" "Why is it that if you carry the uranium you get radiation sickness, and if you put it in a bag you still get it, but if you put it in a bag and drop it then wait 20 seconds and pick it up again, you don't?" I like to level fast but my main concern is always having fun not having the best character to ever play the game. But if it were to turn out that way well who would complain about that.

I guess a little of both, but like a lot of other people I mainly enjoy making good friends and meeting them online. I usually lagged behind my guild in EQ. Got tired of the xp drive thing post 50. Currently a few of us from our EQ guild are chatting about race/classes to try agree on the same race so that we can play together and classes that offer us variety when we play. But Occoria, don't weep. I did vote !! Promise !! btw This is my first of many posts here as i am really keen on playing the bardic class.....just not sure what race tho ! |

Num, looks like it will kind of depend on the overall consensus of your guild's selection of realm, eh? I must admit, I am quite interested in the skald, but I think the others look cool as hell too. I might try them all out to see what really jazzes me. No need to be totally hasty in class selection I suppose, especially since I have not even ever seen the game

well the first thing is, it depends on the character
i like to roleplay my mains, it adds to the game for me, however my secondaries etc is where my 93% killer, 6% socializer comes in as i plan to make a secondary nightshade, he wont talk much, he wont level much (cept for being powered up up up) all he will do is get levelled, specialize in stealth skill and raid/break into/assassinate/suicide into enemy fortresses, if he dies, he dies, he will be be back! back to my main, I'm not one for being a grief player, i dont like killing low levels, oh yay, i killed that person 25 levels lower than me, good for me.... I do talk to people (altho i imagine i would be belittled by Occoria's communication skills DaoC will be coming out around my exam time, so quite often i may just be sitting in town talking while i get some study done. (It's amazing how peaceful studying can be whilst sitting in some back alley of a mmorpg city) |

Mhantra, Skalds look good, I like the idea of a non-human type of character, adds flavour to the role-playing aspect.
Kobolds have a rough, mean look to them and as such I adopt that role quite easily. Maybe a dainty Troll to entertain the masses with a fine soprano voice and tiny dextrous feet ! As to a dwarf, haven't looked at one really. |

Don't know about tiny dexterous troll feet but if so my character will look real funny. A big ol troll with little feet. rofl

What's beginning to worry me right now is the huge support that DaoC seems to be getting from all the old EQ, AO players. I was hoping that DaoC would remain more of a lesser known game with a hardcore following of people that actually played their characters.
Unfortunately the growing number of screenshots and beta diaries seem to be populated with the l33t dOods from EQ that made places like Greater Faydark such a painful place to have to shop in. Please say this isn't so and that most of the testers you bump into on the road are not likely to have you reaching for the ignore list. Hahaha, have you been to the EQ boards lately? There is still plenty of DAoC bashing...hopefully enough to keep them from coming to DAoC...

I play on EverQuest occasionally still, and I pray that the angst-ridden pre-pubescents, and grief player doods will all have the sense to stay on EverQuest, where they can do the most harm, whilst I slip away to join a realm in Hibernia.

Personally I cannot stand that "dudespeak" garbage. I find it infantile and do not associate with anyone filling my screen with that gibberish. The best way to deal with clowns like that is to ignore them, boot them out of your group and warn others of a "moron inc".
Part of my cruising these pages is to find info on where all the children are going to play so I can pick another realm / server. Nothing bothered me more than trying to buy Velious quest gems in EC and listening to a bunch of immature kids acting like asses. Call me an old fuddy duddy if you must, No Midgard for me ! My friends and I moved to daoc from eq *duck* to get away from kewel d00ds always searching for more phat lewts people. And we're having a blast. We're not roleplayers in the strictest sense of the word, but we give it a shot from time to time. After 2.5 years of eq, we realized we prefer the simplicity of the newer days. If we have crap for equipment, we either don't know or we don't care. We have no idea where the best drops are or if we're hunting in the best spots, but we sure have fun looking for them. We do intend to level up in a decent amount of time, participate in rvr events, and make a contribution to the server (Guinivere) when we can. Overall, we know we made the right choice leaving the lands of Norrath and it's problems behind.

Why can't somebody do both? I play on Percival and I get into the role of playing my bard. But I focus on leveling, not quite so much questing. So in that sense, I'm a power-leveler. I've done about 3 levels a night, but all the while, staying in my role, with the occasional ooc question to ask about game mechanics and to excuse myself as I go to the little bard's room. But myself and a friend like to take exploring trips to learn the lay of the land and we stop and converse with the occasional passer-by.
We have servers to seperate the conventional power-levelers from the conventional role-players. I think this was a great move. Everybody's happy. Delayna Amoretto 15th virtuoso bard Percival Server (I gots m4d r0l3playa ski11z) "If brute force isn't solving your problem, you're not using enough." |
