Last night rocked me. I spent the first few minutes running around fighting the weaker river Spiritlings, I guess I haven't figured the trick out just yet, but pulling a.la. EQ doesn't work very well. Atleast when you are alone. Everytime I attempted to attack something from a group and pull them out before they could call for help, I ended up leaving the blue con behind and having the red con chase me to unconsciousess(mine that is) Heh, it was kinda amusing. Anyway, finally I wised up and went and found some Cutpurses to down. I Leveled up on them(One time I got a 'group' experience bonus, even though I wasn't in a group. Thought that was odd) and then went to Camelot to Train as a Minstrel. That was an exciting experience as lag choose to strike heavy there and I was disconnected several times. Probably my own fault, cause my computer is at the minimum requirements I believe.
Anyway. Got that done. Put one point into Thrusting and the rest into Instruments so that I ended up getting two Shouts, Motivational Anthem and Song of restoration. Then I decided I would group up with folks.
I can honestly say that the 'Looking for Group' system is very nice. It doesn't do anything you couldn't do with EQ's 'LFG' flag, but it makes things alittle more proactive on the already formed group's side and keeps it off the broadcast channel.
I ended up in a group with a Paladin, a friar and a Wizard. I'll say right here, The wizard was rockin the beasts with his Ice spells. Whoever says they arn't meant to group didn't ever sit back and watch those red cons fall. We took down River Spirits fairly rapidly. Then we decided that we wanted to take on something larger. We headed to the Bridge, South East of the Keep, and met up with 4 others to max our group out to 8. 8 people in a group, I thought was going to be insanity. Heh.. et me tell you, as a pickup group. It is. I'm certain everyone is still just getting used to the way things will work, but still it was messy. We took on Boulderlings and Shale. It was alot of fun, and great experience. I thought I was only going to just barely make 5 last night, and instead I am half way through 6. It was alot of fun.
I noticed however that I can sing Song of restoration during battle, it doesn't give the 'failed to effect you' message that Motivational Anthem does. So when playing that song am I helping out, or is it minsicule? The group I was in only had one Cleric, so I was attempting to lessen her job, since I was missing most of the time with my rapier and the rest of the group was composed of Melee's I figured I'd be helping atleast somewhat with regen... and then I'd slip my shouts in when they refreshed. In EQ I would have been helping out. Hymn of Restortation, when sung with a magic lute cuts a great deal on the mana usage of a cleric. Moreso if the rest of the group is heavy melee. Anyway, that is my question. Oh and my suggestion is to try these shales with a group of 8. I soared in experience, and no other group was there to take them.
