What are the "Must Have" Minstrel Accessories? |
Lead | |
|
When building a template what are considered the must have items/accessories for a minstrel? Not the "OMG you have that" items but those that you can reasonable expect to obtain either solo or grouped and those that dont cost an arm and a leg off a CM. I have Croc Ring, and Traitor's Dagger atm, with the complete set of harp scrolls (only no harp). I dont want to be dependant on artifacts if possible, because leveling them is simply painful. Any input is appreciated.
Thanks in advance |

Got your weapon. Got your croc ring.
Don't even really need the harp. Although it can be nice not having to swap out, it's utility is pretty crappy. I usually say get Shades of Mist for the AA proc/illusion. It's so ridiculously easy to level. Getting Shades 3 comprises about 70% of the total time it takes to acquire and level the thing (on average). Other than what you have... no really must haves. Even croc ring isn't required, but it sure is nice. |

If you are interested in charming the higher level pets, then consider +11 to Inst manditory.
The ancient copper necklace is a good necklace to have if you don't have any specific necklace in mind, and it's pretty easy to get in one night with a small group. But it's not really a 'must have' Jjoe Nitro!!!!!!!!!!!!

A nice TOA weapon (suggest Malice, Legendary Heat & Cold [Heat for stealthers, cold for everyone else], or Sun weaps for Slashers).
Croc ring for sure. Cloak you can choose between SOM or Harpy cloak, depending how melee oriented you are. Yes to +11 Inst if you want to overcharm. The utility on the harp isn't the reason to use it. The reason to use it is because it frees up a slot on you in which you can put another item to "charge up" to use its effect. Eg, if you were not using Phoebus Harp, you would have a mainhand weap, a small shield, and 2 instruments (most likely drum and flute). All 4 of your "hand slots" are full. If however you use the Phoebus Harp, now you have only 3 of your hand slots full and there is a 4th in which you can put 1 of 3 items: Battler for the absorb Iwin ability, Traitor's Dagger for a 2nd Shade form, or Golden Spear for AOE Flame spears. In addition, you will save keystrokes switching from one inst to another, which translates into faster reaction times. Plus one last thing is you can finally get easy use out of your heal song. And it's actually useful! Most minstrels don't bother because a lute is such a pain in the ass to swap in. Being able to play any song off the lute is just nice. I spellcrafted myself in such a way no matter what shield, sword, or instrument I am weilding, my HP remain constant at 2142 buffed. My AF remain constant at 882 buffed with GoV proc, and my resists remain constant. So fear not you can get the phoebus harp (if you want it) and not lose anything due to its low utility. Just summon your Harp for the day and then equip your Ancient Copper Neck, which you can SC into your template. If there is any interest I can post a screen shot and config report if I can find one of my setup. Nexxev <Y-E-S>: RR6LX, ML10 Sojourner,

Why would croc ring be a must ?
Only use I see is letting other not grouped with you have the speed. Phoebus harp is good because it also gives you +spell duration which helps with charming and free a spot for battler or malic in addition to Traitor dagger. The artifacts I'm aiming for (or already have) are : SOM GOV Phoebus Aten Shield (have) Croc Ring (have) Crown of Zahur (have) Traitor Dagger (have) Battler or Malice Ceremonial Bracer (have) Sun Belt (have) |

Zergwide AA chant?
Zergwide power 5? Zergwide heal (/chuckle) Lot more reasons than mass group buff speed 5. Just last night, I was the healer for 2 all stealther groups as we took down the doors to Glen. Faste while the main Alb relic force took other keeps. Actually was a pretty fine display of how a group or groups of stealthers can contribute mightily to conventional RvR. By the time the main force captured their second keep, we had the wall and inner keep door down. All the while being able to elude and occupy middie defenders who spend precious minutes searching for us instead of joining other defenders on the main raid force. As maligned as it is, the heal song + AA chant can be really effective, especially if you manage to spread out guard aggro amongst many stealthers. That and boiling oil = lots of dead guards. |

I still haven't gotten my ring to 10 yet. I have a question about the ablative chant - if I stand next to a lowbie who is soloing a mob, will my abaltive chant still absorb 70 damage every 6 econds, and if so, does it affect their exp income?
I would think a mini bot with croc and ablative would be awesome to a lower level toon farming mobs... Jjoe Nitro!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: What are the "Must Have" Minstrel Accessories

Yes it helps them.
No it doesn't affect xp. Any song we have that does no damage will help. PLing a fire wizzie with powersong 5 and stun/mez backup is pretty insane. Can kill close to 20 yellows before having to stop for 10-15 seconds to refill power. Getting close to 8 kills a minute solo. The real challenge is finding a place where you have enough mobs and at range. When you get to around lvl 40 though, this slows down a lot (downtime every 4-5 kills -- takes about 90 seconds for that many kills) and you will periodically have to flute mez a mob when it resists nukes. Use of AE mez also good, as it gives wizzie group bonus xp early on. For tanks, up to lvl 30, your AA alone will make your tank PLees undamageable. After that, usually need to sit a spell with heal song on for 15-20 seconds after every 3rd mob. Unfortunately they can't kill any faster really other than having no downtime. They level about 1/5 as fast as damage casters can. Minstrel w/ Croc ring + damage casters is the way to go. Especially Cabbies (any spec), air theurgs, fire wizzies and body spec sorcs. |

Thats what I think is the goods about croc ring. An extra 5% on all resists is pretty sweet.

It basically boils down to this:
If your class can wear the croc ring, then get it. The resists are great, but the conversion effect alone puts it's utility above just about anything else you can find. The aura effect is just icing on the cake. Jjoe Nitro!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: What are the "Must Have" Minstrel Accessories?

My only question about the croc ring is...
Does it actually convert damage prior to being taken, or does it just convert taken damage? If it just converts taken damage, then you're still taking the damage, but gaining end and power, which in itself is ok... But if it converts the damage before its taken, then it does become uber. I've always questioned this and have never really discussed with anyone else. Anyone know? _______________

My understanding is that it genuinely reduces damage.

It does reduce damage, if you've ever dueled someone with it on they see the damage they did before the reduction, but you see the damage after the reduction. IE one person's screen will show "You attack minstrel with your weapon for 200 damage" while you will see "Minstrel attacker hits you for 190 damage with their weapon, 10 damage converted to endurance and power". Hope this helps.

The effects of the ring can be quite insane. Prior to NF, I had a orange Frost Stallion and my buffbot with FOP. I attacked a low level Mid Merchant Keep in Odin's. Had 10..20 yellow>orange guards on me. Between ablative, group heals although I was taking damage any endo or power I tried to expend was practically instantly returned lmao. Just tons of little 50-100pt hits. Remember, your endo pool is only 100 (plus bonuses). So it doesn't take many 5 or 10 pt endo returns to go back to full.
Oh yeah to end my story, I broke through door 1 with my pet and was working on door 2. Over an hour had passed. A FG Mids finally showed up to investigate and rolled me. The retard in their group spam laughed me. I just thought to myself.... a lone minstrel almost took your merchant keep and you're laughing at me? Should be hiding out of your stupidity and lazyness. rofl, ah well - kiddies. Awesome ring. Get it. Nexxev <Y-E-S>: RR6LX, ML10 Sojourner,

Re: What are the "Must Have" Minstrel Accessories?

The point is, does it take damage before ablatives and such are taken into account, or is the 5% taken once all other damage and resist calcs are done?
If your taking say 150 damage a shot, abla takes a %age from this as would melee resists, when is the 5% actually calculated in? Has anyone done testing on it with or without abla running? If factored like a resist it will be done pre-ablative calc, also anyone got any info on when scalars and atens abilities are factored into this equation? Whatever the weather 5% is still damn nice from croc ring |
